Not ready for a parent session?

Start somewhere smaller. These free guides can help you make sense of what's happening - no booking required

When school doesn't quite add up

You don't need to know what you're asking for yet.

"School has told me something, but I'm not sure what it actually means."

"What we're seeing at home doesn't seem to match what school is seeing."

"We've had the conversations. I'm still not sure what's actually changing."

"I know something needs to happen next. I just don't know what."

That's exactly the sort of knot we can untangle.

You don't need the right terminology, a diagnosis, an EHCP or a perfectly organised timeline. Bring what you know, what you've been told and what you're seeing. We'll start there.

before we talk

What would it actually be like to speak to me?

No jargon. No Judgement. No taking sides.

You don't need the right terminology, a diagnosis, an EHCP or a perfectly organised timeline. Bring what you know, what you've been told and what you're seeing. We'll start there.

Both sides of the gate

Sometimes the hardest part isn't knowing something's wrong. It's knowing what to do with what you're being told.

HOME

What you're seeing

Behaviour after school
Anxiety
Avoidance
Dysregulation
Things your child tells you

BRAYTHORPE

We make sense of the gap

What's actually being said?
What might be missing?
What does the terminology mean?
Where are home and school interpreting things differently?

SCHOOL

What they're seeing

Attendance
Behaviour
Progress
Support
Policy/process

Braythorpe doesn't exist to take the parent's side or the school's side. It exists to make each side more understandable to the other.

YOUR SESSION

Bring me the situation. We'll work out what to do with it.

01

What's actually happening?

We separate what you know, what you've been told and what you're seeing.

02

What does school mean?

We translate terminology, processes or decisions that aren't making sense.

03

Where are the gaps?

We look at where home and school may be seeing (or interpreting) things differently.

04

What happens next?

We turn the conversation into practical questions, actions and next steps.

You don't leave with another opinion.
You leave clearer about the situation and what you're going to do next.

Your written summary

After the session, I'll pull together what we've discussed and the practical next steps we've identified.

That means you're not trying to remember an hour-long conversation when the next school email or meeting arrives.

NOT JUST A CONVERSATION

You'll have something to come back to afterwards.

WHY BRAYTHORPE

I've sat on both sides of the gate.

For more than 13 years, I've worked in education, including senior school leadership and as a Deputy Headteacher. I've sat in the meetings, made the calls and worked inside the systems parents are trying to navigate.

Now I experience education from the parent side too.

I'm not here to tell you school is wrong.

I'm not here to tell you to fight harder.

I'm here to help you understand what's happening well enough to decide what to do next.

Questions

Before you book

Do I need to know what's wrong?

No. Making sense of the situation is part of the session.

Do I need a diagnosis or EHCP?

No.

Is this therapy, legal advice or an assessment?

No. It's independent education and parent-school support.

Will you tell me what my rights are?

I can help you understand education processes and terminology. This isn't legal advice; if specialist legal advice is needed, I'll say so and point you towards it.

Will you contact school?

Not as part of the standard session.

You don't have to understand the whole system before you take the next step.

Bring me what's happening. We'll start there.
